Mark Olitsky & The Moon Shells

Russell Mofsky I recorded this using the Spire app on my iPhone while walking around Clifftop last summer. I love this tune because it was one of those unexpected moments where beauty is revealed in normal life. One could argue that with this group of musicians, beauty is a natural occurrence/result -- you wouldn't be wrong. I learned that. It was serendipitous that I had my phone handy. You should all listen to this song and the rest of The Moon Shells albums too. Carry on!

about

Joe Thrift wrote the tune a while ago. The Moon Shells learned it this year. Toward the end of the Appalachian Stringband Festival in Clifftop, WV, they played it with Mark Olitsky late at night. Russell Mofsky happened to record the tune on his iPhone. Brennish Thomson happened to take a picture.

Whether performing as an acoustic stringband, a stripped-down trio, or a five-piece making modern sounds on traditional instruments at clubs and festivals, the Moon Shells move hearts and feet. ... more
